Alopecia Society
Alopecia in Dogs / Home Treatment?
I adopted a dog from the local humane society. She has signs of slight alopecia. She was abandoned by her previous owners…The dog has been tested and has been cleared of mange/ringworm. The did a skin scrape, etc. I think this is stress related she has two little patches on her side that are slightly bald (it looks like the hair is slowly growing in) and in her little “armpits” on her front legs. The vet said shes in good shape and has had all her vaccinations. She is 1/2 pitbull and 1/2 german shephard mix. Her coat is relatively short. I am looking for some at home / natural treatments / easy remedies to help her recover from this… PLEASE real advice requested, I dont need to hear ’bout people knocking the breed/mutley dog I now love. She’s a good girl who has gotten a 2nd chance
Try lessening her stress levels and starting with a high quality food. Something like Natural Balance, Blue Buffalo, Wysong, Merrick, etc. You can also try supplementing some Olive Oil or Flax Oil to help the condition of the coat that she has.
Be sure that everything that you give her or put on her is for sensitive skin/tummies. Also, wellness makes vitamins for all kinds of purposes – you may want to find a store that carries them and start on regimen of it. http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/wellness/dog_wellness_supplements_wellcoat_dog_cat_formula.html
Congrats on rescuing the pup! : )

Alopecia Areata Understanding and Coping with Hair Loss by Thompson, Wendy Shapiro, Jerry Thompson, Wendy J. A. Edition , 0 $13.99 Alopecia areata is an unpredictable disorder that affects more than two and a half million men, women, and children in the United States and Canada. Causing patchy hair loss on the scalp and sometimes elsewhere on the body, this mysterious, noncontagious condition can be treated but it cannot yet be cured. Alopecia Areata: Understanding and Coping with Hair Loss is a sensitive yet straightforward guide to the diagnosis and treatment of this poorly understood disease. With great compassion, the authors explain how hair loss can profoundly affect a person’s quality of life. They discuss what it means to be diagnosed with alopecia areata, and provide medically reliable information on the latest research, diagnosis, and treatment options.Thompson and Shapiro also offer practical strategies for living with alopecia areata, which can go in and out of remission without any apparent reason. They discuss the physical and psychological adjustments to wearing a hairpiece and give pointers on selecting, securing, and maintaining a wig, whether human hair or synthetic, custom or ready-made. Alopecia Areata includes a chapter devoted to the special needs of children with this condition and concludes with an epilogue that tells the story of a day in the life of a woman with alopecia areata, illustrating the various challenges she faces and the strategies she uses to cope with these challenges. The book is an excellent source of information about the disease and the roller coaster emotional ride that usually accompanies it… A pleasure to read because of its intimate style and humor. It will go a long way in helping those with alopecia areata. — Vera H. Price, M.D., professor ofdermatology, University of California, San Francisco |

Now Palmer delivers a relentless thriller that slices to our deepest fears with surgical precision a tale as timely as it is terrifying, as harrowing as it is plausible. Welcome to The Society. At the headquarters of Boston’s Eastern Quality Health, the wealthy and powerful CEO is brutally murdered. She’s not the first to die nor the last. A vicious serial killer is on the loose and the victims have one thing in common: they are all high-profile executives in the managed care industry.Dr. Will Grant is an overworked and highly dedicated surgeon. He has experienced firsthand the outrages of a system that cares more about the bottom line than about the life-and-death issues of patients. As a member of the Hippocrates Society, Will seeks to reclaim the profession of medicine from the hundreds of companies profiting wildly by controlling the decisions that affect the delivery of care. But the doctor’s determination has attracted a dangerous zealot who will stop at nothing to make Will his ally. Soon Will is both a suspect and a victim, a pawn in a deadly endgame. Then, in one horrible moment, Will’s professional and personal worlds are destroyed and his very life placed in peril. Rookie detective Patty Moriarity is in danger of being removed from her first big case the managed care killings. To save her career, she has no choice but to risk trusting Will, knowing he may well be the killer she is hunting. Together they have little to go on except the knowledge that the assassin is vengeful, cunning, ruthless and may not be working alone. That and a cryptic message that grows longer with each murder: a message Grant and Moriarity must decipher if they don’t want to be the next victims. From the Hardcover edition. |
