Alopecia And Chemotherapy

Alopecia Treatment Done The Natural Way
Alopecia, or hair loss, is a condition that is not well understood. Sometimes the hair will grow back and other times it is a permanent loss. There are different types which have different alopecia treatment plans. Losing hair in one spot is called monolocularis. Losing hair all over the body is called universalis and totalis is when all the hair on the head falls out. There are theories as to why this occurs such as wearing hair styles that pull the hair. Chemotherapy can cause it. Men who have an over-sensitivity to testosterone have lost their hair. Sometimes scarring, x-rays, bacterial and fungal infections can be the reason. An auto-immune problem can cause the body to view the hair follicle as a foreign entity and cause it to stop growing or to suppress growth. A bald spot on the scalp is usually the first sign of alopecia. It is a well-defined area and the skin is smooth and soft with no hair at all growing. Other patches appear after 2 to 6 weeks and the hair may re-grow within a 6 month window of time. Diagnosis and treatment of this disease is not easy. Loss of hair in patches will appear, the hair will thin and sometimes when gently pulling the hair it will easily fall out. Hydrocortisone shots give some people great results as it can produce hair growth in 2 to 4 weeks. Corticoteroids also promote hair growth but only for as long as they are administered and then the hair falls out as soon as they are stopped. Imbalances in the system can cause the body to shed hair. This symptom is the immune system protecting itself. Hair loss can be because of hormone imbalance, auto-immune disorder, poor blood circulation, heredity, infections of the scalp or nutritional deficiencies. Homeopathic and Auyurvedic dietary and herbal supplements can help. Natural methods of treatment involve teaching the immune system to react to hair follicles differently by not rejecting them and instead protecting them. The cells can regenerate to promote healthy hair follicles. The body is replenished with essential vitamins, fatty acids, minerals, and amino acids. Electrolytes and hormones are balanced and circulation is improved. Using many modalities that include ancient medicine practices such as shamanism, Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic and homeopathy as well as incorporating quantum physics, biotechnology and allopathic medicine the body becomes balanced. Naturally healing the body allows it to heal itself gently and without masking the symptoms as with medications. Mental and emotional balance is also restored. Providing nutrition to the cells, nutraceutical formulas are administered. Herbal Ayurvedic remedies act on the elements in the body to balance them, hormonal function is restored, blocked enzymes are unblocked and homeostasis is achieved. Patterns of mental and emotional imbalance that led to the problem are altered. Imbalances in the system can cause hair loss, it can be from hormonal triggers, nutritional deficiencies, poor circulation or heredity. Natural remedies can balance the system and provide nutrients it needs for healthy hair. Using these natural techniques for alopecia treatment many people have said they have noted a re-growth of hair in merely 4 to 6 weeks.

Alopecia Areata Understanding and Coping with Hair Loss by Thompson, Wendy Shapiro, Jerry Thompson, Wendy J. A. Edition , 0 $13.99 Alopecia areata is an unpredictable disorder that affects more than two and a half million men, women, and children in the United States and Canada. Causing patchy hair loss on the scalp and sometimes elsewhere on the body, this mysterious, noncontagious condition can be treated but it cannot yet be cured. Alopecia Areata: Understanding and Coping with Hair Loss is a sensitive yet straightforward guide to the diagnosis and treatment of this poorly understood disease. With great compassion, the authors explain how hair loss can profoundly affect a person’s quality of life. They discuss what it means to be diagnosed with alopecia areata, and provide medically reliable information on the latest research, diagnosis, and treatment options.Thompson and Shapiro also offer practical strategies for living with alopecia areata, which can go in and out of remission without any apparent reason. They discuss the physical and psychological adjustments to wearing a hairpiece and give pointers on selecting, securing, and maintaining a wig, whether human hair or synthetic, custom or ready-made. Alopecia Areata includes a chapter devoted to the special needs of children with this condition and concludes with an epilogue that tells the story of a day in the life of a woman with alopecia areata, illustrating the various challenges she faces and the strategies she uses to cope with these challenges. The book is an excellent source of information about the disease and the roller coaster emotional ride that usually accompanies it… A pleasure to read because of its intimate style and humor. It will go a long way in helping those with alopecia areata. — Vera H. Price, M.D., professor ofdermatology, University of California, San Francisco |
